Wang Hanxi is a PhD candidate at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her research interests lie in international trade, with a current focus on optimal trade policy. Her research papers include "Optimal Trade Policy with International Technology Diffusion" and "Does the Belt and Road Initiative Attract Cross-border M&As from Other..."Countries?"以及"Optimal Trade Policies and Labor Markets"。

In her presentation, Wang Hanxi pointed out that this study investigates optimal dynamic trade policies within a trade-driven technology diffusion model and provides a clear formula. Trade influences technological development by affecting the distribution of knowledge acquired by producers. A country should subsidize imported goods that improve the quality of domestic learning, and reduce export taxes when foreign productivity increases benefit the country and export growth improves the quality of foreign learning. The authors further quantified these dynamic trade policies and their welfare impacts using cross-country data. The findings offer insights into understanding domestic trade policies and technology diffusion under multinational models.

HongkongProfessor Fan Chengze of Lingnan University commented on the article. He stated that the article is highly original, and its research from the perspective of importation is innovative. However, the model only considers the unilateral optimal solution under first-order conditions, without considering Nash equilibrium; therefore, the external validity of the model results needs further verification. Overall, the paper's perspective is novel, but the model's construction raises questions about the external validity of the results.
